Bethany Looney

Gym Manager | Owner

Bethany heard about CrossFit for the first time in 2013, from a friend who was attending CrossFit Advantage. “I listened to her gush over CFA, the coaches, the community, the movements, and how it made her feel. She seemed empowered by it and asked me to try it with her.” Bethany took her at her word and accepted when she was invited to join her for a class.

When first walking through the door, Bethany remembers seeing a group of very fit, athletic individuals grinding though the workout of the day. There were barbells flying overhead, loud music blaring and even louder cheers shouted. She recalls “It seemed tough, but you could tell each person was enjoying the struggle.” Shortly after viewing the class for a moment, Bethany was greeted by a friendly redhead, Matt Bendix (see coaches bio). He asked her name, if it was her first-time trying CrossFit, and assured her that she would have a blast. “The greeting made the somewhat intimidating environment seem less scary” she said. Seeing the combination of hard work, positivity and friendship, Bethany was immediately attracted to the sport and the atmosphere. Once she got started, she was hooked to that feeling of accomplishment from pushing her body past what she thought it was capable of.

“Since my first day, I’ve learned, and continue to learn so much about myself, others, health, and what it truly means to be fit”. “Whether you are a beginner or an elite athlete, there is always something to work on, something to learn and something to improve”. Now, as a coach herself, Bethany’s goal is to facilitate that same growth, and she can’t wait to help you discover what you are really capable of.

“If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you.” – Fred DeVito

Derek Cullison

Coach | Gym Manager

I started CrossFit in 2011, I was doing CrossFit kids classes and was hooked from the beginning. From there I quickly fell in love with the competitive side of CrossFit and started competing in 2013! Once I started competing and grew a deeper understanding of the fundamentals, I knew I wanted to become a Coach. Being a CrossFit Coach has been my dream job since I was 12 years old!

My first time coming into CFA was for Murph in 2020, the beginning of the Hero Challenge, walking in I was immediately welcomed by Cody with a high five, that was the moment I felt at home. Everyone at CFA was so welcoming and inviting, becoming a part of this community has been an honor. The appreciation and respect everyone has for each other here at CFA is something you can’t find anywhere else. I am beyond excited to begin my dream job and serve the community here at CFA!

Helping and coaching people has always been a passion of Clayton’s he worked 3 years as an Exercise Specialist for a physical therapy office, guiding and helping people recover from injury. “I’ve coached football and basketball teams in the past, that’s where I learned how much I loved coaching but coaching CrossFit was something special. It’s an unmatched feeling helping others reach and work toward their goals.”

Anton Foss

Coach | Gym Manager

I was active through my youth being outdoors hiking, camping, and beginning my fitness journey through sports and home fitness programs. It wasn’t until January of 2014 that I stepped foot in a CrossFit gym at the invite of my Boy Scout leader. I was hooked immediately, and went all-in to learn the sport, movements, and studying how to improve my ability as not only an athlete, but a coach. This quickly expanded to my life being consumed by the idea of self-improvement, and always setting that next goal to accomplish.

In August of 2015 I took the leap to acquire my CrossFit Level 1 certificate to start my career as a CrossFit coach. This was just the start to my learning experience as I dove head first into human movement and adaptations. This led me to receiving my Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Physiology. I have since continued to expand my knowledge base with continuing education in many of the modalities of health and fitness, and I’m always looking to continue to be a student and learn!

I have spent years programming strength and conditioning programs for gyms similar to Advantage, as well as 1-on-1 work to help bring out the best in those I’ve had the pleasure of working with!

I also spent a lot of my time preparing and competing within both the sport CrossFit and Weightlifting. I have Competed in countless smaller competitions, and have qualified and competed in a handful of big competitions including CrossFit Sanctionals, and Semifinals such as my Granite Games appearance in the 2021 season. I hope to bring the knowledge and experience from all these events to my coaching.
